dc.description.abstractLa realización de La marrana se enmarca en el contexto de las celebraciones en España del V Centenario. Sin embargo, mientras esta conmemoración y los restantes fastos de 1992 intentaban mostrar la cara más exitosa de nuestro país, la película se planteaba abiertamente como un contrarrelato desmitificador tanto de esa época como de su heroica recreación en los dos filmes "oficiales" dedicados al descubrimiento y conquista de América. En la obra de Cuerda, América es presentada como un territorio utópico fuera del alcance de la gente corriente, destacándose por contraposición la vinculación de su descubrimiento con la política de expulsión y segregación racial y religiosa que marcó el nacimiento de la nación española y el comienzo de la Edad Moderna.es
dc.description.abstractThe making of La marrana must be understood in the context of the commemoration of the "V Centenario", a set of events in Spain designed to celebrate the 500th aniversary of Columbus" arrival in America. However, while this and other 1992 celebrations tried to portray Spain's most succesful face, the film was intended from the very beginning as a demystifying counterpart to both that period of history and its heroic depictions in the two "official" films devoted that same year to the discovery and conquest of the Americas. America is presented in Cuerda's work as a utopian world out of reach for common people, stressing on the contrary the links between its discovery and the racial and religious segregation and expulsion policies the links between its discovery and the racial and religious segregation and expulsion policies that are at the core of the origin of both the Spanish Nation and the Modern Era.en
