dc.description.abstract	En 1824 veía la luz la novela de Margaret Bayard, Washington in Winter y tiempo después(1906) su famosísimo libro The First Forty Years of Washington Society, compuesto por unaselección de la correspondencia de Bayard a lo largo de varias décadas. Desde la publicación deesta obra cualquier referencia a la vida washingtoniana de los primeros tiempos recalaforzosamente en la mirada de Bayard sobre una ciudad en la que pasó su vida. Margaret Bayardfue voz y parte de la fundación de la capital de un nuevo estado. Había nacido durante los díasrevolucionarios y encarnó el prototipo en una sociedad volcada en inventarse a sí misma yresponder a la tradición de las culturas europeas aún presentes en la época. Entre todos lostestimonios accesibles, la obra de Bayard es un pretexto para trazar la semblanza de una urbe,Washington City, cuyo principal objetivo a partir del año fundacional (1790) y hasta el fin de laedad temprana (hacia 1835). fue la escenificación de los valores inspiradores de la república Estaes una historia de logros, pero sobre todo de notables fracasos.	es
dc.description.abstract	In 1824, it was published Margaret Bayard's novel, Washington in Winter, and later (1906) it did her famous book The First Forty Years of the Washington Society, a selection of Bayard's correspondence during several decades. Since the publication of this work, any reference to early Washingtonian life inevitably falls on Bayard's gaze of a city in which she spent almost all her life. Margaret Bayard was a voice and a principal character in the founding of the capital of the new nation. She was born in the revolutionary days and incarnated the prototypical people in a society that was shaping itself from to the tradition of the European cultures still alive. Among all the testimonies of the time, the work of Bayard becomes a pretext to trace the semblance of a city, Washington City, whose main objective from the founding year (1790) to its early times (about 1835) was the staging of the inspiring values of the republic. This is a story of achievements but most of all of big failures.	en
