Abstract
La CDU ha sido el sistema implantado en España de formato tal en todas las bibliotecas de titularidad estatal. A partir del 1895, año en que se celebra la primera conferencia internacional de bibliografía y que el sistema decimal empieza a ser implantado, mayormente, en el ámbito europeo, comienza darse a conocer en España. Así, la introducción de la CDU en España va a estar sujeta a numerosas dificultades, y se va a producir, en un primer momento, por hechos aislados de bibliotecarios, y en un momento posterior va a contar con el apoyo de la administración española. Será en 1939 cuando se implante de forma oficial la CDU en todas las bibliotecas españolas. Finalmente a partir de 1989 se deroga la obligatoriedad por parte de los bibliotecarios españoles de emplear la CDU para clasificarlos fondos y los catálogos.
The Universal Decimal Classification has been the system imposed upon all state run libraries in Spain. Since 1895, the year in which the First International Bibliography Conference was held, and when the Decimal System began to be introduced mainly in European circles; it also started to be divulged in Spain. The introduction of the UDC in Spain was subject to numerous difficulties and at first was the work of individual librarians, though later on it would have the support of the spanish administration. It was in 1939 when the UDC was officially imposed on all spanish libraries. Finally, in 1989, it was declared non- obligatory for spanish librarians to utilize the UDC for the classification of archives and catalogues.
