Abstract
This study focuses on the investigation of the corpus of DLE augmentatives. Compared to the explicit explanations of diminutives, less attention is paid to the values and functions of these derivatives, which makes it difficult for users of the dictionary and, above all, for learners of Spanish to recognise, understand and learn them. We therefore carry out a complete analysis of all the augmentatives registered in the most relevant, well-known and prestigious dictionary: the RAE’s DLE. We clarify the meanings and functions that augmentative suffixes can provide, taking into account the theories of numerous authors on these morphological formations. We report on the inconsistencies in their lexicographical treatment and offer a proposal for improvement based on the idea of a dictionary in digital format aimed at both Spanish speakers and foreign students. A second part of the research focuses on the search, in the Chinese language, for morphemes equivalent to the Spanish augmentative suffixes in order to find the best translations between the two languages. Thus, following the line of research proposed in the first part, we analyse all the augmentatives registered in the most prestigious and updated Spanish-Chinese dictionary in order to determine their possible inconsistencies and errors. Finally, we offer a proposal for improvement that seeks to facilitate the presentation of these derivatives to Sino-Spanish speaking students and, ultimately, their use.
