Abstract
Esta obra es una edición revisada de la publicada en 1980, en la que se estudia el Colegio de San Clemente de los Españoles de Bolonia -el primero de los colegios seculares hispánicos-, fundado en 1364 por el cardenal Albornoz, y su función. La tesis que se sostiene es que se trató posiblemente de la primera “escuela de burócratas” del imperio español. En la primera parte del libro se traza una aproximación histórica de la historia colegial en los años en que se configura la función del colegio, para analizar después el sistema institucional del mismo. En la tercera parte se describe la funcionalidad de la institución a partir del origen social de los colegiales y de su proyección profesional en la estructura burocrática del imperio.
This work is a revised edition of the one published in 1980, in which the Spanish College at Bologna – the first of the Hispanic secular colleges, founded in 1364 by Cardinal Albornoz – and its function are studied. The thesis sustained is that it was possibly the first "school of bureaucrats" of the Spanish empire. In the first part of the book, a historical approach to the college history is traced in the years in which its function was configured; than the institutional system of the school is analysed. The third part describes the functionality of the institution based on the social origin of the fellows and their professional projection in the bureaucratic structure of the empire.
