Abstract
Esta tesis toma el cine de la sexta generación como objeto de investigación. Basándose
en el estudio del texto fílmico, se exploran la relación estrecha entre el cine de la sexta
generación y el imaginario social, y se analiza la crisis de identidad de la sociedad y del
individuo reflejada en la obra de sus directores, como resultado de las circunstancias del
período de transición. Aplicando las teorías filosóficas, sociológicas, antropológicas y
cinematográficas, se abordan específicamente la imagen e imaginación urbana en el cine
de la sexta generación, con especial atención a los personajes de clase inferior y
marginales desde la perspectiva de la identidad individual. Esta generación de cineastas
ha estado acompañada por la controversia desde su surgimiento, pero su obra documenta
con fidelidad la realidad china encubierta en la corriente principal.
Como paso inicial necesario, se parte de un análisis del contexto histórico. A continuación,
se interpretan las características realistas en el cine de la sexta generación, descubriendo
los fenómenos y los problemas sociales que se esconden tras el estilo, forma y contenido
de su creación artística. Dada la importancia de la ciudad en su obra, la sexta generación
es considerada por la comunidad académica como “la generación urbana”. Profundizando
en las características ciudadanas poco convencionales de su obra, se analiza la realidad
social a través de una construcción urbana espacial y temporal. Por último, se estudia las
crisis de identidad desde la perspectiva del individuo que habita en la urbe. Haciendo un
recorrido desde el espacio externo al espacio psicológico, se analizan específicamente los
personajes marginales que retrata la sexta generación, así como la ansiedad existencial
del individuo debido al dilema de supervivencia al que se enfrenta.
El cuerpo principal de la tesis se centra en la presentación del imaginario social en las
expresiones audiovisuales de la sexta generación, explorando la realidad social del
periodo de transición desde diferentes perspectivas y la profunda influencia del contexto
de la época en su creación cinematográfica.
This thesis takes the cinema of the sixth generation as the object of research. Based on the study of the filmic text, it explores the close relationship between the cinema of the sixth generation and the social imaginary, and it analyses the identity crisis of society and the individual reflected in their work, as a result of the circumstances of the transition period. It specifically addresses the urban image and imagination in the cinema of the sixth generation, by using the philosophical, sociological, anthropological and cinematographic theories, with a special focus on lower-class and marginal characters from the perspective of individual identity. This generation of filmmakers has been accompanied by controversy since its emergence, but their work faithfully documents the Chinese reality masked in the mainstream. As a necessary initial step, we start with an analysis of the historical context. Then, the realist characteristics in the cinema of the sixth generation are interpreted, uncovering the phenomena and social problems behind the style, form and content of their artistic creation. Given the importance of the city in their work, the sixth generation is considered by the academic community as "the urban generation". By delving into the unconventional urban characteristics of their work, the social reality is analyzed through a spatial and temporal urban construction. Finally, the identity crises are studied from the perspective of the individual who lives in the city. By moving from the external space to the psychological space, the marginal characters portrayed in the sixth generation are specifically analysed, as well as the existential anxiety of the individual due to the survival dilemma. The main body of the thesis focuses on the presentation of the social imaginary in the audiovisual expressions of the sixth generation, exploring the social reality of the transition period from different perspectives and the profound influence of the context of the time on its cinematographic creation.
