Abstract
The term intersectionality is still unknown by many people, though it has been in the academic research and social movements agenda since the 1980s. It entered slowly into public discussion and nowadays can be considered a buzzword (K. Davis 2008, 2014). In this chapter we explore the roots and applications of intersectionality to research. We explore what changes when an intersectional approach is integrated and overview how we do it. We conclude with some critical reflections on the challenge intersectionality brings to research for social transformation and social justice in diverse areas.
