Abstract
El artículo estudia la trayectoria artística de Matilde Díez en el año cómico de 1836-1837, cuando se ajusta como primera dama en el Teatro de la Santa Cruz de Barcelona. En esa temporada, en la que se gana el apodo de La divina, destaca por sus interpretaciones del repertorio de Dumas, entre otros dramas románticos. Gran parte del mismo estaba traducido por CovertSpring -José Andreu y Fontcuberta-, cuyas críticas en, entre otros, El Vapor, contribuyeron, junto con una amplia producción poética laudatoria, a consolidar su notoriedad. Heredera escénica de Concepción Rodríguez, desarrolló una dilatada carrera que la convirtió en la actriz de referencia de gran parte del XIX.
This paper focuses on Matilde Díez’s artistic trajectory in the 1836-1837 theatre season, when she was enrolled as leading actress in the Teatro de la Santa Cruz (Barcelona). During that season, in which she earned the nicknamed «La divina», she performed Dumas’ plays, among other romantic dramas. Many of them were translated by Covert-Spring – José Andreu y Fontcuberta–. His theatre reviews, for instance on El Vapor, and the poems that Díez’s admirers write for her increased her reputation. She followed Concepción Rodríguez’s repertoire and she became one of the most prestigious Spanish actress of the 19th century.
