AB La propaganda política durante la EdadMedia utilizó en ocasiones a las mujerescomo arma arrojadiza entre facciones,dándose así la paradoja de que las figurasfemeninas, excluidas del espacio político,eran claves en épocas de conflicto. Parademostrarlo se analizan tres momentoscruciales en la monarquía castellana, enlos que se producen enfrentamientos entrehermanos por cuestiones sucesorias, y enlos que se utiliza a las mujeres de lafamilia como medio para desprestigiar alcontrario. En el último tercio del siglo XI, larivalidad entre Sancho II y Alfonso VI, tuvoen medio a su hermana Urraca deZamora; a mediados del siglo XIV, elenfrentamiento entre Pedro I y Enrique II,utilizó a varias mujeres de la familia comomedio de propaganda; en la segundamitad del siglo XV, la pugna entre EnriqueIV e Isabel de Castilla, envolvió también alas mujeres de la familia.
AB During the Middle Ages Spanish monarchsand nobles developed a form of politicalpropaganda in which women were used asweapons against their political rivals. Theresult was that female figures, excludedfrom the political arena, took a great rolein problematic periods. To illustrate thispoint, I analyze three cases from crucialtimes of the Kingdom of Castile, when inthe fights for the throne between siblings,women of the immediate family wereinvolved. One, which took place in thesecond half of the XIth century, involvedthe rivalry between Sancho the IInd andAlfonso the VIth. Another which centeredon the rivalry between Pedro the Irst andEnrique the IInd, occurred in the middle ofthe XIVth century. And the third, whichtook place in the second half of the XVthcentury, pitted Enrique the IVth and Isabelof Castile.
