AB El actual diseño del Estado de las Autonomías ha dibujado un mapa territorial en el que se integran algunas Comunidades Autónomas, cuyo fundamento histórico ha sido, en ocasiones, puesto en cuestión. En este trabajo se aborda el caso de Cantabria, a través del estudio de importantes precedentes, que demuestran que su constitución, en 1981, como Comunidad Autónoma no fue resultado de una mera invención política, sino que rescataba la existencia de un movimiento autonomista que había alcanzado un estimable desarrollo durante una experiencia anterior de reorganización de la estructura territorial del Estado tan destacada como la producida durante la Segunda República al amparo de la Constitución de 1931.
AB The current model of the State of Autonomous Communities has drawn a territorial map in which some of the Autonomous Communities included have had their historical foundation questioned on occasion. This article will address the case of Cantabria through the study of important precedents, which will demonstrate that its constitution as an Autonomous Community in 1981 was not a mere political invention, but rather recovered the validity of an autonomist movement that had reached considerable development during a previous noteworthy experience with reorganizing the territorial structure of the State, such as the one carried out in the Second Republic under the Constitution of 1931.
