T1 Empresas versus mercados. Un boceto para una historia (2ª parte)

AB Partiendo de la pregunta de qué puede aportarle a un estudiante de económicas oempresariales la historia de la empresa, el artículo defiende que esta aportación puedeser muy positiva, siempre que quienes impartan la materia adopten un enfoque másanalítico que simplemente descriptivo. La naturaleza de la empresa y las causas y consecuenciasde los cambios en la organización y el tamaño de la misma deberían ocupar,para ello, una posición central en sus explicaciones, mediante un equilibrio entre teoríae historia. En una primera parte del artículo se ofrece una panorámica de las teoríasacerca de la naturaleza de la empresa, con especial atención al enfoque costes de transacción,y de la business history norteamericana, centrada en la empresa de esc país a lolargo del último siglo. En una segunda parte se presentan algunas reflexiones y sugerenciaspara extender este tipo de análisis a otros países y épocas.
AB Starting from the question about the potencial contribution of entreprcneurialhistory to the general formation of the students of economics and business, this arriciecontends that this contribution may be very positive, provided that an approach moreanalitic than merely descriptive is adoptcd on the teachcrs' side. For it, the nature ofthe firm and the causes and consequences of changes in her organización and sizeshould occupy a central place in their explanations, by means of a balance betweentheory and history. In the first part of the article a review is provided of the theorieson the nature of the firm, with spccial focus on the transaction costs approach, and ofthe American business history, devotcd to the study of the enterprise in that countryalong the past century. In a second part, some thoughts ans suggcstions are given inorder to extend the same kind of analysis to othcr countries and periods.
