RT Journal Article T1 z-TORCH: An Automated NFV Orchestration and Monitoring Solution A1 Sciancalepore, Vincenzo A1 Yousaf, Faqir Zarrar A1 Costa PĂ©rez, Xavier AB Autonomous management and orchestration(MANO) of virtualized resources and services, especially inlarge-scale NFV environments, is a big challenge owing to thestringent delay and performance requirements expected of avariety of network services. The quality of decision (QoD) ofa MANO system depends on the quality and timeliness of theinformation that it receives from the underlying monitoringsystem. The data generated by monitoring systems is asignificant contributor to the network and processing load ofMANO systems, impacting thus their performance. This raisesa unique challenge: how to jointly optimize the QoD of MANOsystems while at the same minimizing their monitoring loads atruntime? This is the main focus of this paper. In this context we propose a novel automated NFV orchestrationsolution called z-TORCH (zero Touch Orchestration)that jointly optimizes the orchestration and monitoring processesby exploiting machine learning techniques. The objective is toenhance the QoD of MANO systems achieving a near-optimalplacement of VNFs at minimum monitoring costs.
