RT Conference Proceedings T1 MRI slice selction with scaling functions A1 Vaquero López, Juan José A1 Santos, Andrés A1 Pozo, Francisco del AB A new family of amplitude-onlyradiofrequency modulation waveforms for slice selectionin Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is presented.Based on the scaling functions associated to differentwavelet families, these new envelope waves provide higherslice selectivity than gaussian or sinc functions. They arealso more compact on the time domain, since notruncation is needed, allowing to reduce the time requiredfor the slice selection process. This feature is valuable onmultislice-multiecho and fast acquisitions. Theirperformance has been evaluated both through simulationsof the Bloch equations, and by measuring the slice widthof real ramp phantoms images. The simulation resultsshow that this amplitude modulation causes a phasebehaviour of the resonant protons within the selectedvolume that is more coherent than with other techniques. This effect can be related to the higher intensity of theimages acquired with this slice selection procedure.
