RT Conference Proceedings T1 Exergy optimization in a steady moving bed heat exchanger A1 Soria Verdugo, Antonio A1 Almendros Ibáñez, José Antonio A1 Ruiz-Rivas Hernando, Ulpiano A1 Santana Santana, Domingo José AB This work provides an exergy analysis of a moving bed heatexchanger to obtain for a range of incoming fluid flow rates theoperational optimum and the incidence on it of the relevantparameters such as the dimensions of the exchanger, theparticle diameter and the flow rate of the fluid. The MBHEproposed can be analyzed as a cross flow heat exchanger whereone of the phases is a moving granular medium. In the presentwork the exergy analysis of the MBHE is carried out overoperation data of the exchanger obtained in two ways: anumerical simulation of the steady state problem and theanalytical solution of the simplified (avoiding conductionterms) equations. The numerical simulation is carried over thetwo steady energy equations (fluid and solid), involving for thesolid the convection heat transfer to the fluid and the diffusionterm in both directions, and for the fluid only the convectionheat transfer to the solid. The analytical solution is the wellknownsolution of the simplified problem neglectingconduction effects.
