AB We study unemployment insurancebenefit recipients’ transitions out ofunemployment, focusing on whether they arerecalled to the previous employer. For thispurpose, we develop a split population modelof the recall decision by employers, since only a portion of unemployed workers is everrecalled. Age, qualification, contract type,previous tenure and wage levels, and thelevel of benefits are important determinants of both whether and when a recall to theprevious employer is initiated
