RT Generic T1 Micro-fast for the sintering of the superconductor material YBCO A1 Sánchez Ruiz, Natalia AB Inthelasttwentyyears,alargenumberofinvestigationsandresearchgroups,forthedevelopmentofminiaturizationofproductsanddevicesusedintheindustry,canbefound.Ithasbeennoticedthatthedemandformicro-­‐scalemanufacturedpartshasexperimentedastrongincreased.Anovelmicroformingtechnology,namedMicro-­‐FASThasbecomeoneofthemostpromisingmethodsformicromanufacturingwithacompetitiveandefficientlowcost,whichresultsaveryimportantrequirementtotakeintoaccountnowadays.Micro-­‐FASTisthefieldassistedsinteringtechniqueanditwasfirstproposedbyagroupofresearchersfortheformingofmicrocomponents.Someoftheresearchers,workingontheimprovementanddevelopmentofthistechnique,arepartoftheDesign,ManufacturingandEngineeringManagementdepartmentoftheuniversityofStrathclyde,wheretheexperimentsmentionedinthisprojecthavebeencarriedout.Followingtheknowledgeandpreviousworktheyhaveperformedwithdifferentmaterials,inthisprojectithasbeenrealizedaMicro-­‐FASTusingasuperconductormaterial,YttriumBariumCopperOxide,knownasYBCOorY-­‐123.Oxidesuperconductorsarepresentingahighattractivefortechnicalapplicationsrecently,sinceithasbeendemonstratedtheycanactassuperconductorsatliquidnitrogentemperature.Becauseofthis,ithasbeenconsidereditcanbeagreatchallengetocarryoutaMicro-­‐FASTwiththiskindofmaterial,asitissomethingthatisnorecordonanypreviousreportormagazine.Thisprojectconsistsin6chapters,wherecanbefoundafullstudyofthefeaturesofthissuperconductormaterialaswellasofthecharacteristicsandconsiderationstotakeintoaccountfortheproductionofdenseYBCObulkfrompowdersofthismaterial,usingMicro-­‐FAST.Italsoshowstheresultingsamplesobtainedafterthesinteringprocesscarriedoutina3800GleeblemachineattheImperialCollegeinLondon.Thedifferentparametersselectedfortheseveralexperimentareindicatedanditcanbealsoobservedadeepanalysisofthemicrostructureandtherelativedensityofthesamplesusinghighqualitydevicesprovidedbytheuniversity.ThegoalofthepresentworkistofabricatehighlydenseYBCObodybyMicro-­‐FASTinordertoimprovethesinteringtimeandalsoanalysetheeffectonthemicrostructureanddensitywhensomeparameters,suchassinteringtemperature,pressure,heatingrateand/orholdingtime,arechanged.
