Glocalización cultural en la era del vídeo bajo demanda. Diversidad de contenido en Netflix, HBO y Prime Video

Abstract

A partir del concepto de glocalización y la práctica de la cartografía, este artículo explora la diversidad de contenido ofrecida por tres servicios de vídeo bajo demanda por suscripción transnacionales: Netflix, HBO y Prime Video. Se proponen y aplican tres categorías vinculadas a distintas dimensiones de la diversidad cultural: la diversidad de lugar; la diversidad de género; y la diversidad étnico-racial. De ese modo, se identifican y clasifican múltiples obras que representan y simbolizan la presencia y representación de diálogos entre lo global y lo local, así como de identidades diversas en términos de origen, género y/o etnicidad o raza.

Drawing on the concept of glocalisation and the practice of mapping, this article explores the diversity of content offered by three transnational subscription video-on-demand services: Netflix, HBO and Prime Video. Three categories linked to different dimensions of cultural diversity are proposed and applied: diversity of place; diversity of gender; and ethnic-racial diversity. In this way, the article identifies and classifies multiple works that represent and symbolise the presence and representation of dialogues between the global and the local, as well as of diverse identities in terms of origin, gender and/or “race” or ethnicity.
