Extensiones y mejoras de la herramienta CourseEditor

Abstract

El objetivo principal de este proyecto de fin de carrera es crear una nueva versión de la herramienta CourseEditor desarrollada en un proyecto de fin de carrera anterior, con el objetivo de mejorar tanto la usabilidad como la funcionalidad de la misma. CourseEditor es una herramienta software implementada en Java, que permite a un profesor describir la programación curricular de un curso pasando por sus diferentes fases (objetivos, contenidos, secuenciación y evaluación), generando ficheros que son compatibles con un subconjunto de la especificación de e-learning IMS-LD (Learning Design) y otros ficheros con información adicional que no está recogida en IMS-LD. Las mejoras respecto a la usabilidad permiten al profesor crear cursos de una forma más fácil e intuitiva mediante la mejora de la interfaz y solución de errores existentes en la versión anterior. Por otra parte las mejoras funcionales de la herramienta se han centrado en dos puntos, la introducción de características del nivel B recogidas en la especificación IMS Learning Design y la creación de un editor gráfico, ambas orientadas a facilitar la secuenciación de tareas. Finalmente se ha realizado una evaluación de la herramienta mediante la realización de pruebas funcionales y estructurales así como la realización de diferentes secuenciaciones con el objetivo de verificar que la versión final es estable. El resultado del trabajo llevado a cabo es una herramienta más completa, fácil de usar e intuitiva.

The main objective of this final degree project is the development of a new version of the existing tool called CourseEditor which was developed in other final degree project. Its main aim is to improve the usability of the tool and also to add more functionality to it. CourseEditor is a software tool implemented in Java. It allows teachers/lecturers describe the complete plannification of a course through its different phases (objectives, contents, sequencing and evaluation) as it is detailed in the IMS Learning Design specification. At the same time, this tool is capable of generating files according to the so called specification describing the methodology used. Moreover, the tool is able to generate other XML files with information related to other planning topics of a course that are not included in IMS-LD. Usability improvements allow lecturers to generate courses in an easier and more intuitive way, thanks to the improvements that has been made on the tool’s interface and the solution of errors that existed in the previous one. On the other hand, functionality improvements follow two main points, the introduction of level B functionalities that are included in the specification and the creation of a graphical editor, both of them oriented to facilitate the tasks’ sequence. Finally, an evaluation of the tool has been made by doing functional and structural tests, as well as designing different sequencings to prove that the final version of the tool is a stable one. The final result is a more complete, intuitive and easy-to-use tool.
