Abstract
Concentrated solar power technology is the only renewable, along with pumped hydropower, with the ability to integrate energy storage with proven efficiency not relaying in chemical batteries. The continuous development of this technology and the improvements in the manufacturing processes of the components used, foresee its future expansion in the near future. Throughout the report, calculation methods for the basic modelling of the main systems of a parabolic-trough concentration solar plant with 6 hours thermal storage and dry cooling will be established. First, the location of the plant will be selected taking a real case as reference, being it simulated by SAM software. Next, calculation procedures for the main systems modelling (solar field, power block and storage system) will be shown. The design process will end sizing the air cooler condenser required for the refrigeration of the plant. Finally, an economic assessment will be performed, providing a value for the capital cost of the project and analyzing the profitability of the initial investment.
