Abstract

El mosaico romano de Vilches (Jaén) muestra la descomposición de las formas artísticas que tiene lugar en las regiones periféricas del Imperio Romano al final de la Antigüedad. Los autores fechan este mosaico, por la composición, el tratamiento de los motivos decorativos y sus paralelos estilísticos, en el siglo V avanzado. Asimismo, ponen de manifiesto que la provincia de Jaén ha dado dos de los mosaicos hispanos más tardíos.

The roman mosaic from Vilches (Jaén) shows the decomposition of the artistic forms occurred on the peripheral areas of the roman Empire in the Late Antiquity. This mosaic is dated by the Authors in the late 5th century attending to the composition, the treatment of the decorative motives and its stylistic parallels. They also emphasize on the «provincia» of Jaén has provided the two latest hispanic mosaics.
