Abstract
En este artículo se analiza un impuesto municipal local que se abonaba en especie
en unas localidades del interior de Guipúzcoa, precisando sus características, origen y
cuantía. A partir de esta documentación de origen fiscal, se ha obtenido una larga serie
homogénea de precios del hierro que abarca desde mediados del siglo xvil hasta fines
del XVIII. Esta fuente resulta un buen indicador de la coyuntura de la industria siderúrgica
vasca, y confirma, matizándola, la evolución del sector que Bilbao y Fernández de
Pinedo habían deducido de las exportaciones de mineral de Somorrostro.
The purpose of this article is to analyse the yield of a excise tax that the bloomeries of two little villages of Guipúzcoa paid in wrought iron. From this fiscal data has been obtained a long and homogeneous series of wrought iron prices from the middle of the XVIIth Century to the end of the XVIIIth, This source becomes a good indicator of the economic conditions of the Basque iron industry, and corroborates with some notes the evolution of this sector that Bilbao and Fernández de Pinedo had inferred from the taxes raised on the export of iron ore by sea from Somorrostro.
